Thinking about the Management Accounting Discipline

Of late I've been contemplating how to frame the management accounting discipline. It is quite broad and a lot fits under that umbrella. Somewhat, I actually prefer the concept of Controllership from Europe; although, I'm sure there is nuance to the differences that I'm overlooking.

Still, there's a lot to consider and people have given a lot of names to different components that I think fall within the broader discipline. Some (and I'm certainly overlooking at least a few) include: cost accounting, financial planning & analysis, controllership, management control systems, business/financial analytics, and corporate finance. That is to say nothing of the idea of being a "strategic business partner" or more specific roles and activities, like forecasting, which we do.

So, interested to here, looking at the concepts and tools generally included in the broader discipline, how might you organize them?

JP ... I have attached the pdf file with my taxonomy. It is a chapter from my authored book titled "Activity-Based Cost Management - An Executive Guide" published by John Wiley & Sons.
